Behind the Autumn/Winter 2026 Collection with our Textile Designer

With the arrival of a new season comes a fresh collection of beautiful new socks to step into autumn in. We sat down with Textile Designer Jennifer Parkinson to get a sneak peek into the latest designs, discovering how woodland motifs became a key theme, how comfort is a key element to consider when it comes to the design process, and which particular style Jennifer herself will be pinching for her sock drawer. 

What inspired the A/W 2026 collection?
I find inspiration everywhere, but I love keeping an eye on the latest trends and colour stories. Looking through trend forecasting presentations is always exciting because it feels like getting a sneak peek at what's coming next. Seeing the colours, textures, and themes predicted for future seasons sparks new ideas and helps me create designs that feel fresh and relevant.

Was there a particular autumn/winter trend that influenced the designs?
Every Autumn/Winter season brings back a few timeless favourites, with Fair Isle knits and winter florals making a regular appearance. This year, however, we're also seeing fresh updates to classic prints. The fawn pattern is emerging as a softer, more playful alternative to leopard print, while charming woodland-inspired motifs, delicate foliage, and nature-inspired illustrations are adding a cosy, whimsical feel to seasonal collections. These trends capture the warmth and comfort of autumn while bringing a fresh, modern twist to traditional winter designs.

Where did the colour palette come from?
As winter arrives, we naturally tend to choose colours that reflect the season, with warmer, earthy tones becoming more appealing. Our AW26 collection embraces this through a palette of soft neutrals, complemented by pops of autumnal shades such as burnt red, fawn brown, and khaki green. The result is a collection that feels both seasonal and easy to wear.

We noticed animal themes appearing across the design mood boards – how have these influenced the new collection?
It’s been great to introduce woodland creatures into the range this season. They bring something a little different to the collection and offer customers a fresh alternative to classic patterns like stripes and spots, while still feeling perfectly suited to Autumn/Winter.

How does comfort influence every stage of the design process?
Comfort is always at the forefront when designing Gentle Grip socks, so we carefully balance pattern design with the softness and gentle fit that Gentle Grip is known for. We want every collection to be both visually appealing and comfortable to wear.

How have customer needs shaped this collection?
We always appreciate hearing from our customers, as their feedback plays an important role in shaping future collections. Whether it's requests for new colours or suggestions for different patterns, we love finding out what people would like to see next. We've had lots of requests for more colour options, so we're currently working on introducing some exciting new shades, watch this space!

Which pair would you secretly keep for yourself?
The Fairisle Fancy designs will be my go-to this Autumn/Winter. I’ll be wearing them with a chunky knit jumper for a cosy, comfortable look that’s perfect for the season.

If you could give customers one reason to try the new collection, what would it be?
I think people really will appreciate the comfort welt of the socks, but comfort doesn’t mean boring, and I feel with the patterns created for this season, whether you are more into florals or a cute animal motif, we have something for everyone.
