So many of us take for granted amenities like electricity, running water and the like. But imagine going about your busy daily lives without shoes! They’re such a necessity, doing any basic task without them would be seen as bizarre, yet it’s estimated that around 300 million people around the world cannot afford shoes.

Taking place on 12th May 2017, One Day Without Shoes Day was set up to allow people to put themselves in the proverbial shoes of those who aren’t fortunate enough to own a pair, just for one day. Whether it be to raise awareness of the issue and encourage donations, either of unwanted footwear or money to eradicate the problem.

Lack of footwear can lead to picking up totally avoidable infections and injuries, and when the solution is a few pieces of leather and rubber cobbled together, it is all the more frustrating. So, today, try performing just a few of your tasks, perhaps mowing the lawn, without your normal footwear, you’d be surprised just how uncomfortable the feeling is, and throw a few pennies towards ending an unnecessary global issue.
